Kappa Mu Epsilon

Kappa Mu Epsilon is a specialized honor society in Mathematics founded in 1931 to promote the interest of mathematics among undergraduate students. Initiation is by invitation only.

The IUP chapter is the Pennsylvania Zeta Chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon and was founded on May 6, 1965. Dr. Gary Stoudt is the faculty advisor.

IUP-Preservice Teachers of Mathematics

IUP-Preservice Teachers of Mathematics (IUP-PTM) is officially recognized as a university organization. The purpose of the organization is to provide leadership, service, and programs for preservice elementary and secondary mathematics education students at IUP.

Organization activities include service projects such as Family Math Night and programs such as panel discussions by alumni from the IUP Mathematics Department who are working in the field of Mathematics Education, and a session on interviewing for a job as a mathematics teacher.

Any student majoring in Elementary Education, Middle Level Education (Mathematics Specialization), or Secondary Mathematics Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania may become an active member. The group is also officially recognized as an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Contact Valerie Long, faculty adviser, for more information, or visit IUP-PTM on Crimson Connect.

SIAM Student Chapter

The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics is an organization to advance the application of mathematics and computational science to engineering, industry, science, and society.

IUP's student chapter invites interdisciplinary participation of students and faculty from a variety of departments, and provides invaluable opportunities to develop networks with faculty members outside of the classroom, share ideas and research with people with similar interests, learn about career options, and develop leadership skills.

Contact Herve Nganguia, faculty adviser, for more information.

Computer Science Organizations

Computer Science Club

Please note the Computer Science Club is not meeting this semester.

Students are encouraged to go to the ACM Student Chapter on campus instead.

The Computer Science Club is a student-run organization which focuses on discussion, presentation, collaboration, and the addressing of issues within the computer science field.

The Computer Science Club strives to create an open and activity-oriented atmosphere where everyone is welcome. We have participated in such activities as a tour of the IUP IT server room, a trip to the Carnegie Science Center, and community-oriented projects. Meetings consist of topic workshops, discussions on current events and critical issues in the computer science field, and many other activities which are held periodically throughout the academic year. Meeting schedules are set up by officers at the beginning of each academic term.

The Association for Computing Machinery Student Chapter

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Student Chapter at Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a student group dedicated to professional development and education in technology.

The IUP Association for Computing Machinery Student Chapter is a chapter of the national Association for Computing Machinery organization, one of the foremost groups around the world for technology education and research. They provide various conferences and publications to the world and are the curators of the famous Turing Award, one of the most prestigious honors in the computer science world.

At IUP, our student chapter is dedicated to providing events for students revolving around technology and the computer industry. Having provided seminars on 3D printing, virtual reality, professional development, as well as workshops on programming languages and web development, the ACM provides many opportunities for students of all interests and skill levels to refine their abilities and knowledge with technology.

All students are encouraged to attend, regardless of major or skill level. Every industry involves technology in some way, so all students are welcome.

Benefits of membership include information on all events before anyone else on campus, as well as the opportunity to voice your opinion on what events should be scheduled. Student members get various leadership and volunteer opportunities, which allow them to refine their skills in computer science and leadership. ACM national membership also provides access to award opportunities, publications, and large amounts of literature.

Meetings are held every other Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Stright 340.
