Yongtao Cao, a statistician in the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, will offer two workshops on using the free statistical software R.

R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. It is also an excellent language for data science.

In the first part of this workshop, Cao will introduce how to summarize and visualize data with the "tidyverse" package. He will then show how to compare proportions and means and build predictive models with the traditional statistical methods, as well as resampling methods such as bootstrapping and cross validation.

In the second part of the workshop, participants will get hands-on experience on how to embed all the analysis results from the first part of the workshop into a Shiny App. Throughout the workshop, participants will be investigating the length of stay of COVID-19 hospitalizations based upon the IRMC COVID-19 patients' data.
