Producer/singer-songwriter Caleb Murphy ’13 released his latest album, Everybody Breaks,
August 16, 2018, after dropping the album’s single of the same name. The 11-track album, which he describes as his most “honest and mature record yet,” can be streamed and purchased on various sites, including Spotify and iTunes. It is his second
album, following 2012’s Four Sons.
Aside from being drastically different in genre, Murphy’s sophomore release has a central theme: the importance of community. On his website, Murphy said he was happy with his work but scared
to release the album, because it’s the “most personal” album he has made, following major changes in his life.
While Four Sons sounded more like a folk-acoustic record, Murphy said his newest single “launches the listener right into the jazz-inspired groove: The funky acoustic guitar and the walking bass keep the rhythm, while the soulful keys and saxophones
color the mix.” The same rings true for the rest of the self-produced album, which is an easy listen—colored with indie-rock beats, reggae tempos, and uplifting lyrics.
Murphy has been self-releasing and self-producing music since the age of 19. He now resides in Austin, Texas, with his family. Fans can visit the Caleb J. Murphy website to read
