In May 2017, Michele Papakie ’93, IUP journalism
faculty member and a lieutenant colonel in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, invited IUP administrators to see what she does with the Guard’s 171st Air Refueling Wing in Findlay Township. Her guests saw a ribbon-cutting for the new flight simulator;
toured a KC-135 Stratotanker, a refueling aircraft; and checked out the boom simulator, used to train operators in controlling air-refueling equipment. Three alumni were part of the boom-simulator demonstration. Pictured, from left: IUP President
Michael Driscoll; William Shapiro ’08, technical sergeant; Humanities and Social Sciences dean Yaw Asamoah; Jason Moore ’06, master sergeant; Michele Papakie; and Michael Worthington ’83, master sergeant.
