The Anti-Defamation League honored Jimmy Johnson ’03, Montgomery County, Maryland, sheriff’s deputy, and various other county law enforcement representatives with the 2014 Shield Award. They were recognized for their efforts during the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of members of the Moorish Nation, an anti-government group charged with first degree burglary, conspiracy, and theft of over $100,000 in connection with their occupation of a home in Montgomery County. Honorees and their families received threats because of their involvement in the case.
Award recipients were chosen by a selection committee of 21 law enforcement executives from metropolitan, state, and federal agencies in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Jimmy joined the sheriff’s office in 2004 and currently is the administrator of the office’s social media program. He is married to Sarah Solar Johnson ’03, whom he met at IUP.
