Thomas Whitman M’98 has joined Gannett Fleming as senior consultant, environmental health and safety services, within the Environmental Resources Division.
Based in the firm’s corporate headquarters in Harrisburg, he provides a wide range of safety and environmental consulting services, including compliance auditing and reporting, management system program development and support, technical training program development, and electronic data management system guidance for private sector clients throughout the United States.
Whitman brings to his position 27 years of industrial experience, including 20 years in pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and waste-to-energy operations. He has supported environmental remediation projects, safety management system design and development, and solid waste management projects. His expertise includes in-depth knowledge of ISO 14001, an international standard for environmental management, and OSHAS 18001, an international occupational health and safety management system guideline. In addition, Whitman developed and taught an accredited university-level environmental technology course.

In addition to his master of science in safety sciences from IUP, he has a bachelor of arts in geoenvironmental studies from Shippensburg University. He is a certified safety professional and a certified hazardous materials manager and is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals. He lives in New Cumberland.
