The book A Civil War Family was the result of Robert Scott Craig M’64 visiting the National Archives to search for information about his great-great-grandfather.
“Looking at a picture with his eyes staring at me, I was inspired to investigate all my ancestors that fought in the Civil War,” Robert said. “This is their story.”
A Civil War Family (The Battling Blacks of Butler County, Pennsylvania During and After the American Civil War) covers the participation of the author’s ancestors from Butler County, Pennsylvania, who fought in the American Civil War. Beyond the story of each of these fourteen first cousins with the surname of Black, the book is a treasure of the major battles of the American Civil War.
A copy of the book has been donated to the IUP Department of History.
