An exhibition featuring the breadth of scholarship produced by faculty in the Department of Art and Design. Scholarship within Art and Design can range from peer-reviewed publication to large-scale installation to client design proposals. This exhibition is an opportunity for students to see what their faculty are producing professionally in their respective fields.

Juried and curated by Allison Lacher, the 112th Annual has a theme of nearness and invites viewers to consider what it means to be near and the conditions through which nearness is formed. The exhibition, spanning four locations, has a throughline connecting one to another, making the multi-show exhibition feel as a whole. Each location also holds its own theme as part of nearness—Reach: Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Hold: Robert Morris University, Suspend: Slippery Rock University, and Return: Seton Hill.

On January 6, 2021, the US Capital was overrun with protesters on the feast of Epiphany. This is an exhibition of quilts made in response to that event. The series of quilts considers varied, complex, and nuanced positions between individual agency, accumulation of power, and institutional position. With influences from Daumier in the French Revolution to Mother Theresa and the Sisters of Charity, to current Christian Nationalism in the US, Bordon’s quilts interrogate the use of faith to accumulate power. Then the use of power to manipulate faith and individual agency is obscured through a medium of care. I want to bring up questions with this work, and allow the audience to engage as they like.

Echoes of Evergreen

10/2, 4:00–5:00 p.m.: Behind the Scenes: Project Evergreen (film clips, process, and artist talk)
Project Evergreen, a collaborative film by husband-and-wife team Christine Forni (artist) and James Forni (director). The film tracks an artist’s journey back to an area near her family’s roots, a place where Evergreen Conservancy transforms a legacy of environmental extraction into filtering and healing the waterways. A conversation about sharing ecological stewardship and documenting the creative process. They’ll be sharing their process in the development of documenting this project.
