The IUP Symphony Orchestra performs music inspired by the natural world, including Aaron Copland’s “Outdoor Overture,” Virgil Thomson’s film score to The Plow That Broke the Plains, and the East Coast premier of Roger Zare’s “Thaw,” depicting the magical transition from winter to spring.

The concert will feature IUP professor of flute Therese Wacker performing Gluck’s “Dance of the Blessed Spirits” and Kennan’s “Night Soliloquy.”

Roaming chamber music from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The chamber music portion will conclude with Jason Worzbyt performing the Guignol concerto for bassoon and wind orchestra.

Following that performance, the IUP Symphony Band, under the direction of Worzbyt and internationally known guest conductor Paula Crider, will perform works by Chance, Danyew, and Jager.

The Wind Ensemble will close the concert under the direction of Timothy Paul with a performance of “Wine Dark Sea: Symphony for Band” by Mackey.
