Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Education Abroad Policy outlines university-wide procedures for developing, managing, and participating in international academic experiences. Published annually, the policy serves as a key resource for students, faculty, and staff planning global engagement in the upcoming academic year.

This policy applies to all IUP students, alumni, faculty, staff, and recognized volunteers involved in credit or noncredit education abroad programs conducted under the auspices of IUP. Whether you are proposing a new faculty-led program or preparing to study, intern, volunteer, or conduct research abroad, the policy details the steps, responsibilities, and safeguards in place to ensure safe, high-quality, and meaningful international experiences.

It also defines the types of education abroad opportunities currently available at IUP, including:

  • Faculty-led programs
  • Semester, year-long, winter, and summer Study Abroad
  • Travel seminars
  • Field study, internships, and service-learning abroad

The Office of International Education supports participants and program leaders through each phase of the process, from program development and approval to pre-departure preparation, in-country support, and return.

We encourage all students, faculty, and staff involved in international academic travel to review the policy in full and follow the outlined procedures to ensure proper compliance and institutional support.
