IUP is committed to a drug-free campus for its students and employees. As part of that commitment, this notice provides information pursuant to the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 (P.L. 101-226). The act requires that as a condition of receiving funds or any other form of financial assistance under any federal program, an institute of higher education must certify that it has adopted and implemented a program to prevent the unlawful possession, use or distribution or illicit drugs and alcohol by students and employees.
This program must include the following:
IUP is committed to the maintenance of a learning and working environment free from the unlawful use of drugs and alcohol in accordance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act Amendments of 1989. It is the intent and obligation of the university to provide a drug-free, healthful, safe, and secure work environment free of drug and alcohol abuse. As such, the university prohibits the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by students and employees on its property or as any part of its activities.
The unlawful manufacture, distribution, possession, or use of a controlled substance or alcohol on university premises or while conducting university business off university premises is absolutely prohibited. All applicable legal sanctions under local, state, or federal law for the unlawful possession or distribution of illicit drugs or alcohol will be applied.
