For 2025, December 24, 26, and 29 are compensatory holidays rescheduled as noted above. Employees who have been in active status since February 17, 2025 (Presidents’ Day holiday), should not be working on these days. Employees hired after February 17, 2025, will not have earned all compensatory holidays and may work or take earned annual, personal, or documented compensatory leave.

The university will be open on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, and Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Campus Police, Power Plant, Post Office, and IT Services employees are required to work on those days. All other employees are encouraged to take earned annual, personal, or documented compensatory leave for this day.

For 2026, December 24, 28, and 29 are compensatory holidays rescheduled as noted above. Employees who have been in active status starting February 16, 2026 (Presidents’ Day holiday), should not be working on these days. Employees hired after February 16, 2026, will not have earned all compensatory holidays and may work or take earned annual, personal, or documented compensatory leave.

Only permanent employees are eligible for paid holidays. To earn the paid holiday, the employee must be in an active pay status for the last half of the employee’s scheduled work day immediately before the holiday, the day the holiday is observed, and the first half of the employee’s scheduled work day immediately following the holiday. If the employee is on leave without pay for any part of the aforementioned period, he/she will not earn the paid holiday.

Permanent part-time employees earn a prorated number of hours for holidays based on the number of hours in their regular work schedule, not the actual days of their work schedule. A permanent part-time employee who works 18.75 hours per week earns 3.75 hours of holiday pay for the holiday, regardless of the number of hours the employee is scheduled to work on the day that the holiday falls.

If you have any questions, please email the Benefits Team at benefit-services@iup.edu or call 724-357-2431, Option 1.

*Holiday for AFSCME employees only. All other employees may work or take earned annual, personal, or documented compensatory leave.
