In June 2020, Yaya Sissoko published "A Reformulated Value Chain Framework Useful for Different Kinds of Markets" (co-authored with Jeffrey Forrest, Yong Liu, John Golden, and Qiaoxing Li) in the Journal of Business Economic Studies (Volume 14, Issue 1).

With the emergence of new kinds of markets, scholars recognize that Porter's (1985) value chain framework is no longer sufficient for analyzing business firms. To confront this challenge facing managers and entrepreneurs, this paper generalizes previous works to establish results that are equally applicable to the analysis of firms that offer tangible products, services, or world of business, such as market competition, innovation, and resource, formal propositions are established. Accordingly, practical and reliable general recommendations are offered, as well as a few unsettled questions for future research.
