There will be a reception and accompanying artist talk with Lucy Eickelberg, whose exhibition "Reconteur" is currently being displayed at Kipp Gallery in Sprowls Hall. Light refreshments will be provided.
In Lucy Eickelberg’s work allegory, symbolism, and animal imagery are used to reframe shared intangible heritage. By referencing folklore, fairytale, and superstitions, she creates a visual language in which each symbol has a continuous individual meaning. Printmaking processes centered around repetition and iteration are used to reinterpret
motifs, putting them in new, strange, and imaginary contexts. By shaping them into symbolic forms, she portrays how comfort can be found in the persistence of human struggles as evidenced in folk tales; suggesting that cornerstone experiences are echoed across time.
