Legacy Brass Quintet

The fall recital by Legacy Brass. The Legacy Brass Quintet is the honors student brass quintet for the IUP Department of Music. Membership in the ensemble is by performance audition, and is open to any IUP music major in the brass area.

The funding for this ensemble was made possible through a gift from Jim and Jamie Self. Jim Self is an IUP alumnus (BS in Ed, 1965) who has been a first call tuba player in Los Angeles for over 30 years. He is known for playing the "Voice of the Mother Ship" in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and has performed for hundreds of movie and television soundtracks in his career, as well as performing as principle tuba in many of the top professional orchestras in and around Los Angeles.

The Legacy Brass Quintet performs advanced quintet repertoire and receives specialized coaching from the IUP brass faculty.

Many Department of Music events are live-streamed and have digital programs. Visit the concert programs page for links.
