A total of 100 new American citizens will be welcomed during an October 11 naturalization ceremony at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
The naturalization ceremony is part of IUP’s Office of International Education’s celebration of International Education Week. The ceremony, open to the community, is conducted by the United States Customs and Immigration Service.
The 100 applicants are from 47 countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Burma, Cameroon, Canada, China, Colombia, Congo (Kinshasa), Cote d'Ivoire, Cuba, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Sweden, Syria, Taiwan, Togo, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and Uzbekistan.
IUP President Michael Driscoll will make remarks at the ceremony and will join Sarah Silverd, Immigration Services officer, in welcoming the new citizens. IUP student Michaela Lees will sing the National Anthem for the ceremony.
