A 2014 Ponemon Institute study ranks Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Computer Science Department among the top 25 percent of 183 American schools for cybersecurity education. The Ponemon Institute conducts independent research on digital privacy and security.

Metrics used in determining these rankings were each program’s academic excellence, practical relevance, experience and expertise of faculty, experience and background of students and alumni, and professional reputation. Survey respondents were executives, managers, consultants, and technicians from sixteen different industries.

IUP ranked higher than the programs at Texas A&M, Rutgers, and Kansas.

Other schools in the top quartile include Dartmouth, George Mason, Johns Hopkins, the Naval Postgraduate School, and Howard. IUP is one of only four ranked schools in Pennsylvania.
