Alumna Kristin ButterworthExecutive Chef, Lautrec
Nemacolin Woodlands Resort

Farmington, Pennsylvania

As executive chef for Lautrec at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in southwestern Pennsylvania, Chef Kristin Butterworth is the youngest female chef in the world to helm a Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five-Diamond restaurant.

Butterworth graduated with honors from the Academy of Culinary Arts in 2002, after completing her externship at the Mobil Five-Star, AAA Five Diamond Boulders Resort in Carefree, Arizona.

Following her externship, she returned to Pennsylvania to take a position at Luigi's, a local, family-owned Italian restaurant. During this time, Chef Butterworth also had the opportunity to travel to Italy, where she attended the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners and earned a certificate in Italian Cuisine and Pastry.

Kristin next accepted a position at Nemacolin (for the first time). It was here that she gained experience with the business side of food and beverage operations, allowing her to focus on cost and labor management in addition to her cooking expertise.

In 2005, she took on a new challenge at the Sea Island Resort in Georgia, where she worked her way up from cook I to sous chef and was a member of the team that opened the Cloister Hotel and Georgian Room Restaurant (which received the highly acclaimed Mobil Five-Star award 14 months later).

A sous chef position at the prestigious Inn at Little Washington in Virginia was Chef Butterworth's next challenge. Here, Butterworth was mentored by the legendary Chef Patrick O'Connell as she was immersed in learning the intricacies of preparing fine American Cuisine using the freshest ingredients.

Returning to Nemacolin in 2010 to accept the position of chef de cuisine at Lautrec, Chef Butterworth took on the responsibility of managing the resort's Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five-Diamond restaurant.

Following Kristin's return to Nemacolin, Lautrec once again received the coveted Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond Awards, making Chef Butterworth (at the age of 28) the youngest and only female Five-Star Chef for 2011.

Promoted to executive chef at Lautrec, Kristin Butterworth works with her talented culinary team to create some of the finest dining experiences in the country including the European-American cuisine in her seven-course and 14-course Chef's Tasting Menus.

Under Kristin's leadership, Lautrec has been recognized as a Five-Diamond Restaurant (AAA) continuously since 2007 and has received the Five-Star Restaurant (Forbes Travel Guide) since 2009.
