Research has shown that group counseling is as effective as individual counseling. Talking with other students who have similar experiences provides support and perspective. Group facilitators work to provide a safe, confidential environment where members are free to discuss their thoughts, feelings, and concerns as they are comfortable.

This support/process-focused group for undergraduate and graduate students is intended for students struggling to make interpersonal connections, particularly during the current pandemic. The group will be small (four to six students), unstructured, and conducted entirely over Zoom.

Participation in group will allow students who are feeling isolated, disconnected from their peers, and/or unable to maintain meaningful relationships to learn about their interpersonal styles, develop improved confidence in social settings, and give and receive support from their peers.

Due to high demand, this group will have two sessions available:

  • Mondays: 3:15-4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 1:15-2:30 p.m.

Participation in groups requires an initial meeting with the group facilitators. To schedule this initial meeting or to ask questions, contact the Counseling Center by phone at 724-357-2621 or email counseling-center@iup.edu.
