Virtual Computer Lab (VCL)

Using VMWare, the Virtual Computer Lab provides remote access to a Windows desktop so you can access the software applications found on the PCs in the public computer labs as well as the standard desktop. This service is provided for all registered students, faculty, and staff members.

Features of using the VCL

The Virtual Computer Lab provides remote access to software applications found on the PCs in the public computer labs and IUP office PCs (ITS standard desktop).
Access a Windows 10 environment from any web browser, or access a Windows 10 environment from the downloadable client for MAC, iOS, Android, Linux, and Windows devices.
Access to local and pay-for-print printer devices.
Client version provides access to local printers on your host computer.

A VPN connection, using GlobalProtect, is required to connect to either the HTML or Client version.

Access the VCL via a web browser

To access the VCL from a web page, go to vcl.iup.edu.
Select VMWare Horizon HTML Access.
A page will come up with a button to accept terms and conditions.
After accepting, a login screen will appear. Please enter your MyIUP credentials.
- Note: Check the third option on the screen—select IUPMSD from the dropdown.
After entering your credentials, a screen will pop up with an option to open a Public Lab computer or a Standard Desktop computer. Click on the appropriate option (students = Public Lab and employee = Standard Desktop).
You now have access to your virtual computer.

With the web version of the VCL, you have to use the side pane to import files from your computer to the virtual computer. You also have a few options where you can enable multiple displays if you have multiple monitors.

Install the VMWare Horizon client on your device

A client can be installed on your device for accessing a VCL session.

On a PC or Mac:
- To install this client, go to vcl.iup.edu.
- Select Install VMWare Horizon Client.
- Select Go To Downloads for the latest version of your device.
- Download the installer to install the client.
On an iOS or Android device:
- Open your device’s app store.
- Search for VMWare Horizon and install the app

Once you have installed the client on your device:

Open the installed application.
Enter vcl.iup.edu for the server field.
Enter your IUP username and password.
Select IUPMSD from the dropdown box.
Click Log in
Select Public Lab on the next screen.

Faculty/Staff: Using an IUP-issued machine?

This application can be installed with one click on IUP-issued machines using the Company Portal.
