We’d love to tell you more!
IUP has more than 140 majors to choose from, so there is something for everyone. IUP also has almost fifty honors tracks, which are available in numerous majors and offer a more rigorous course of study. If you’re looking for something a bit more challenging, an honors track might be for you. See our list of available honors tracks for specific information.
A lot of students develop new research or use research they conducted for class projects and present it at a day-long event. This event has much the same feeling as the kind of academic conferences faculty members attend every year. Prizes are awarded for the best presentations, and an opportunity is provided to see what students in different majors are doing. Visit the Undergraduate Scholars Forum website for more information.
Many departments offer their own opportunities. For example, if you’re an aspiring public relations professional in the Journalism Department, you have the chance to gain real experience through the Lasting Impressions group. Or, if you are a female science or math major, you’ll have a chance to participate in the Women in Science, Mathematics, and Technology program during the annual Research Appreciation Week. Business majors of all types have the opportunity to work as a team to invest real money through the Student Managed Investment Portfolio. Every major offers different opportunities!
To give you the best possible start, IUP offers the CUSP program. CUSP stands for College Undergraduate Success Program. Incoming freshmen who choose to participate come to campus a week before classes start to learn about all the resources IUP has to offer and to take a crash course in getting to know how best to succeed in your new environment. Right before classes start, all new students gather in Fisher Auditorium for the Freshman Convocation, which kicks off the start of your college career in the same way graduation marks the end.
