  • Wellness Works is a campus wellness program for faculty and staff members. The mission of the Wellness Works program is to help IUP employees and their families improve their quality of life by providing information on health and wellness and by sponsoring health and wellness activities and programs.

    Get Healthy: Know Your Numbers Wellness Screenings

    The fifth annual Know Your Numbers wellness screening period will be held September 1 through December 31, 2017, for PEBTF participants. Visit PEBTF for more information.

    Celebrate your healthy choices with the trip of a lifetime. In Walk the Wonders, you and your teammates will walk as much as you can while visiting the world’s most beautiful sights. Registration begins on August 23, 2017, for PEBTF participants to join in the Walk the Wonders challenge, which runs from September 11 through November 5, 2017. Start a team at PEBTF.

    Get Healthy: October Webinar

    Tips to Quit Tobacco: Thursday, October 19, 2017: Noon–12:30 p.m.

    Explore how tobacco and nicotine affect the body, discuss strategies to quit and identify tips to help you stay on track with your tobacco free goals. Visit PEBTF and click the ActiveHealth link. Register early, limited spots available!

    2017 Flu Shot Clinics

    Rite Aid will be on campus to administer flu vaccinations to the IUP community on October 5, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and October 18, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the HUB Susquehanna Room. Gatti Pharmacy will administer vaccinations on November 2, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the HUB Susquehanna Room.

    Faculty, managers, coaches, OPEIU, and SPFPA employees and their covered dependents ages nine and older enrolled in the Highmark PPO or the UPMC HMO plan can receive a free flu vaccine by presenting their health insurance member ID card. (Eligibility for Healthy U Points when you receive your flu vaccination)

    AFSCME, SCUPA, and PSSU employees and their covered dependents ages nine and older enrolled in a PEBTF health plan, both PPOs and all HMOs, can receive a free flu vaccine by presenting their CVS/Caremark prescription drug card or their health insurance member ID card. Please bring both cards.

    Those not covered by a Pennsylvania State System or PEBTF health plan can also receive a flu shot at one of the flu shot clinics subject to a vaccination fee (cash is due at the time the vaccine is administered). Receipts are available upon request.

    Registration is not required; however, in an effort to minimize your wait time, you are encouraged attend a clinic according to the following schedules:

    Other Opportunities for Receiving Flu Shots

    All Highmark members (who are age 9 and older) can obtain a free flu shot at any Rite Aid, Giant Eagle, Gatti, or CVS Pharmacy in Pennsylvania. No appointment is necessary—the member must present their Highmark health insurance ID card.

    Highmark members of all ages can obtain a free flu shot from their physician; however, an office visit copayment may apply.

    HMO members can also obtain a flu shot at their primary care provider's office (office visit copayment may apply). Flu shots may also be obtained at any pharmacy or clinic that accepts HMO insurance; or, if the pharmacy/clinic is nonparticipating, a claim form for reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses may be submitted, a claim form is attached, and receipts are available upon request from the pharmacy.

    Journey to LEAN: Lifelong Exercise and Nutrition (open to all IUP employees)

    In partnership with IRMC, LEAN will begin on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, and will be held one time per week from noon–1:00 p.m. in the Conemaugh Room at the HUB. There is no cost to IUP employees for this program.

    Join IRMC for this 12-week, weight management course that includes:

    • Pre- and post-biometric screenings (weight, waist measurement, body fat, blood pressure, and BMI)
    • 60-minute sessions that include nutrition, behavior change, and take-home workouts
    • Personalized eating plan
    • Grocery store tour
    • Led by professional experts

    Lunch-n-Learn Series:

    In partnership with IRMC, a three-month series of health and wellness topics will be presented to the IUP campus community one time each month by IRMC wellness professionals. There is no cost to IUP employees for this program.

    2. All Stressed Up and Nowhere To Go: Monday, October 9, 2017, noon–1:00 p.m. in the Conemaugh Room at the HUB

    Faculty, coaches, manager, SPFPA, and OPEIU members are eligible to earn Healthy U points for participation in these programs.

    Healthy U

    Faculty, managers, SPFPA, OPEIU, and coaches and their covered spouse/same-sex domestic partner who are enrolled in the Highmark PPO plan can also earn Healthy U Points through participation in certain campus and community wellness programs.
