Undergraduate Programs

By choosing among three theater and dance degree concentrations, you can direct your creative talents. In a supportive, interdisciplinary environment, you'll shape your future as an artist in the entertainment industry, or discover and nurture unexpected interests that may lead you to related fields that welcome your gifts for self-expression.


Theater-by-the-Grove, produced by the Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance, presents several productions each year, including the coproduction with Music Theater of a major musical.

Dance Theater

IUP Dance Theater is produced by the Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance and presents two major concert programs annually.

Footlight Players

Footlight Players is a youth theater program hosted by the IUP Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance. It offers a month-long summer program for ages 7–17 led by professional teaching artists assisted by IUP student interns.

Simulated Patient and Applied Theater Ensemble (SP/ATE)

SP/ATE is an ensemble that gives our students experience in the emerging field of simulated applied theater. We currently provide simulations for nursing and allied health, food and nutrition, and large-scale trauma and crisis response, as well as community-based improvisational performances developed to address specific social issues.

The Acorn Project

The Acorn Project provides a developmental environment for student actors, designers, playwrights, and directors who wish to create original performance projects in ensemble.

It's All for One at Theater-by-the-Grove

Theater-by-the-Grove presents the premiere production of a new play by Pittsburgh playwright TJ Young. “The Inseparables” is an uproarious and feel-good comedy perfect for an entertaining evening (or matinee). Performances open Wednesday, November 3, and run through Sunday, November 7.

Guest Artist Holder to Offer Self-Producing Workshop

BIPOC arts instigator and early-career producer Amber Holder will speak at an IUP Theatre and Dance Forum on Friday, September 10, 4:40–5:30 p.m. in the Waller Hall main theatre.  A brief talk on creating a performing arts career with radical programming in this "gig economy" will be followed by an interview and questions from attendees.
