Two awards were presented to current SAHE students during the annual Student Affairs in Higher Education Thanksgiving celebration, a longstanding tradition that brings together students and faculty to share gratitude and celebrate the holiday.

The first award presented was the Get Involved! SAHE Student Leadership Award, created by Tom Baker (SAHE ’05), Erin Baker, and Lila June Baker. This award is given annually to a Student Affairs in Higher Education student who has demonstrated an enthusiasm and passion for assisting others. This year’s recipient, Nyekeya Hardy, was recognized for her genuine commitment to strengthening the SAHE community, making an impact within her campus workplace, and contributing positively through involvement beyond her assistantship.

The second award presented was the Nancy J. Newkerk Scholarship, which honors an esteemed retired IUP student affairs educator. This scholarship is awarded to an SAHE student upon completion of their first academic year in the program. Since 1999, it has recognized SAHE graduate students who demonstrate exceptional contributions to college students, student affairs initiatives, the SAHE department, and the broader higher education community. This year’s recipients were Abigail Hancox and Tristan Pfeiffer.
