What do you know about labor and immigration? How are they related? How do new immigrants affect the US labor market? Get educated about one of the key issues for the November 2020 presidential elections by coming to this program to learn about the current labor and immigration policy and its history.

The Six O'Clock Series is hosting "Elections in the Time of COVID-19" on Monday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom

A panel of IUP faculty, staff, and students will discuss the effects of the current global pandemic on the 2020 elections and the efforts to collect Census data. Attendees will also learn how to apply for a mail-in ballot and where to find information about candidates and issues.

Roma, 7:00 PM

The most personal project to date from Academy Award (R)-winning director and writer Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Children of Men, Y Tu Mama Tambien), ROMA follows Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), a young domestic worker for a family in the middle-class neighborhood of Roma in Mexico City. Delivering an artful love letter to the women who raised him, Cuarón draws on his own childhood to create a vivid and emotional portrait of domestic strife and social hierarchy amidst political turmoil of the 1970s.

How to do a Netflix Party:

Before the Event:

Open Google Chrome Web Browser on a Laptop or Desktop
Download Netflix Party Extension, a Gray NP should appear in upper right corner
Open Netflix & start a show (must have an account/free trial), Gray NP should turn Red
Click on Red NP extension in upper right screen to start party and test extension


Day of Event:

Open Google Chrome Browser
Type in Movie Monday link that will be live by 6:30 PM found in @IUP_MCSLE Story & Bio Link Tree). On Double Header days, both links will be live by 6:30. You can pull up both Netflix Parties at the same time by using incognito Google Chrome windows. 
Link will take you to the Netflix film. Once there, click the Red NP to enter the chat

Extended to all sorority women by Panhellenic.  The program is offered by LEAD and is free for everyone via Zoom. Let's Empower, Advocate, and Do, Inc. (LEAD) is an industry leader in mental health education, founded in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

On September 15, 2001, Balbir Singh Sodhi, a Sikh man, was killed outside of his gas station in Arizona by a man who assumed he was Muslim because of his beard and turban. This was the first hate crime murder following the terrorist attacks. Balbir’s brother, Rana Singh Sodhi, will present at this program about Sikh culture and religion, along with his family’s story about his brother’s murder, and his campaign for peace and forgiveness.

In the late 80s/ early 1990s, the most feared battle MC in Queens, New York, was a fierce teenage girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders. At the age of 14, Lolita "Roxanne Shanté" Gooden was well on her way to becoming a hip-hop legend as she hustled to provide for her family while defending herself from the dangers of the streets of the Queensbridge Projects in NYC.

Self awareness, awareness of others, empathy and mindfulness are keys to helping you unlock your success.  They are also the important pieces of your Emotional Intelligence.  Join the MCSLE leadership team as we do a presentation on Emotional Intelligence and help you learn more about who you are.

Honoring Harvey Milk, the first openly gay American politician elected into office, and the activism that paved way for the LGBTQIA movement today.

Join MCSLE and the Career and Professional Development Center for “Conducting a Job Search in the Midst of a Pandemic… and Post-Pandemic.”

The program will happen via Zoom.

For many of us, searching for a job (or an internship) can be a bit daunting; and, during a pandemic that’s interfering with normal daily life as well as the economy, the job search may be even more daunting. Join us for a discussion (that means we want you to be engaged with thoughts and/or questions!) about searching for a job during this challenging time. Remember, IUP and your Career and Professional Development Center are here to support you—our students and graduates!

Based on the digital series of the same title, Gentrified centers on three cousins who band together to keep their grandfather’s popular Boyle Heights taco shop in business as the neighborhood becomes more gentrified.

Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King, 7:45 p.m.

In his first stand-up special, Hasan Minhaj weaves humorous and heartbreaking anecdotes to tell his life story as an Indian-American Muslim. Topics include racism, bullying, and meeting the demanding expectations of his immigrant parents.
