Black Business Expo

In celebration of Black History Month and to support black-owned businesses, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is hosting a Black Business Expo to showcase black-owned businesses on campus and throughout the surrounding communities.

Saturday, February 29, 2020

The event will take place on Saturday, February 29 in Folger Hall at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. The purpose of this conference is to help student leaders develop an understanding of their leadership abilities and how their role as a leader impacts campus and societal structures; displaying the multifaceted aspects of leadership both internally and externally.

Conversation will benefit all students regardless of class standing and academic program. All are welcome and encouraged to join us!

This flexible conference presents opportunities for networking and brainstorming through round table discussions, team building activities, and opportunities for deep dialogue. Come prepared for a unique conference experience, unlike others you've attended before!

A panel of local official and Census representatives will discuss how the 2020 Census will impact students and the community. They will present an overview of the Census, how numbers impact representation in legislature and distribution of funding, the Indiana County 2020 Complete Count Committee, and why students need to be counted at their school address. The panel will advise students on the various ways students can self-respond.

During this week's workshop, students will learn about the need for mindfulness when leading others, develop strategies to unwind after leading, and understand one's own needs regarding mindfulness and self-care.

Wednesday, March 4, 2020

During this week's workshop, students will hear from international students regarding their experience with leadership from their perspective and their own cultural influences.

Love is sweet...until it isn’t. Escalation is a film that honestly and compellingly tells the story of an abusive relationship—from its sweet beginnings to the tragic end. The authentic depiction of unhealthy behavior escalating into violence helps you understand and recognize the early signs of relationship abuse. After, you can take away information on how to have a healthy relationship and how to safely get out of an abusive one.

Join the Multicultural Center and Hair4Everyone for a screening of the film Nappily Ever After, a woman's journey towards self-love and expression, followed by a discussion with IUP’s Sharon Procter, Veronica Watson, and Quintina Thomas, stylist and owner of Hair4Everyone.
