Over the past several weeks, the Student Cooperative Association has been preparing to conduct the vote on the proposition that originated from the General Membership Meeting on August 20, 2026.
During that process, several questions were raised regarding the wording and format of the proposition, thus delaying the process and vote.
The proposition, as submitted, was challenged by a member of the Board of Directors as being a breach of the Association’s bylaws. After consultation with Association legal counsel, legal counsel concurred that the proposition violates the current bylaws of the Association.
Accordingly, and consistent with Robert’s Rules of Order, I am suspending the electronic vote on the proposition.
In the spirit of the proposition, the Student Cooperative Association Board of Directors unanimously approved the following action:
Prior to the Student Cooperative Association entering into any future land management contracts at the Student Cooperative Association Recreational Park, the Board will create a committee in accordance with the Association’s bylaws. The committee’s function will be to make recommendations to the Board consistent with the Association’s bylaws.
We appreciate the engagement of our members and remain committed to a transparent, bylaw-compliant process as we move forward.
