Any regularly enrolled student who, because of deep professional interest in and an outstanding contribution to the local chapter of NSSLHA, shall be eligible to be enrolled an Honorary Member. Any person, except a regularly enrolled student, who, because of deep professional interest in and an outstanding contribution to the local chapter of NSSLHA, shall be eligible to be elected an Honorary Member.

What Does NSSLHA Do?

Our Indiana University of Pennsylvania chapter of NSSLHA is typically run and organized by the graduate student officers. Undergraduate students as well as graduate students are encouraged to join the organization. As a group, NSSLHA organizes fundraisers, service projects, seminars, social events, etc.

It is beneficial for students in the major to join NSSLHA for several reasons:

  • Students can get to know others in the major.
  • Students gain information about the profession, techniques in therapy, and application processes for graduate school.
  • There are opportunities to volunteer in the community.
  • There are opportunities for undergraduate students to ask graduate students for advice.

Requirements of Members

Members are expected pay their dues and to keep up with their “points” throughout each semester. For every event or meeting, members receive an attendance point for that specific event. The list of point requirements include:

  • Attend half of the NSSLHA meetings
  • Attend one social
  • Participate in one service activity
  • Participate in one fundraiser
  • Attend/participate in one professional development activity

If a member cannot attend half of the meetings over the semester, the point system is adjusted as follows:

  • Attend two socials
  • Participate in two service activities
  • Participate in two fundraisers
  • Participate in one professional development activity
