About Our Graduate Safety Sciences Faculty

Safety Sciences graduate students with Dr. Wachter Professor Jan Wachter (center) holds an MS in environmental health, a PhD in environmental health, an executive MBA, and certifications as a safety professional, industrial hygienist, hazardous materials manager, and reliability and quality engineer. He has over 20 years of service with the federal government, working largely in the national laboratory research complexes of the Department of Energy. See a directory of our outstanding faculty.

Bringing Real World Experience Into the Classroom

There are eight Safety Sciences faculty members. They bring to the classroom their professional experience in industries such as insurance, oil, chemicals, textiles, energy, the public sector, explosives, mining, steel, consulting, and manufacturing. All faculty are certified safety professionals, and many hold multiple certifications.

  • Our professors are active in safety sciences research and publishing.
  • Their focus is on you, their student. All graduate students have an advisor who mentors them throughout their graduate program.
  • Safety Sciences is one of only two departments that have their own career fair. An average of 65 companies attend the two-day safety career fair, and it's here that we place you in co-ops or internships.
