I am sorry to share the sad news of the recent passing of Matthew Joseph Miller, a senior early childhood education-special education major from Pittsburgh.

Matthew began his studies at IUP in fall 2022.

The death of someone you knew can evoke strong feelings. The best way to cope is to talk to your closest friends, family members, or trusted colleagues.

There are people among us who have experienced similar events, and they are often more than willing to help others going through difficult circumstances.

Students who would like to speak with an IUP counselor may call the IUP Counseling Center at 724-357-2621. Counselors are available for crisis appointments and consultation and to offer guidance and support during difficult times.

The Armstrong-Indiana 24-hour Crisis Line is available for support at 877-333-2470 or by texting Hello to 741741.

Members of IUP’s Council on Spiritual and Religious Life also are available to help. You can email spiritual-life@iup.edu to contact a spiritual life advisor, or call or text the Council’s “Need to Talk” line at 724-427-5151.

Please join me in sending your thoughts and prayers for comfort and peace to Matthew’s family and friends and to everyone at IUP and in the community who knew him and who is affected by his passing.
