Luis Gonzalez will transition from his position of Dean of Libraries to the role of Advisor to the Provost on Digital Information Access effective immediately. Gonzalez has served in the role of dean since fall 2010.

“Digital information access is an important part of best practices in academic libraries, which are transforming from a place ‘where books are' to a place where knowledge is accessed, often through technology,” IUP President Michael Driscoll said.

“Mr. Gonzalez has served us during a time of great transition and growth in the IUP Libraries, and I thank him for his work and his commitment to IUP,” he said.

While a search for a dean of Libraries is underway, Deanne Snavely, dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, will serve as interim dean of Libraries. The search will be conducted on a national level and will begin soon.

“I have confidence in both Mr. Gonzalez and Dr. Snavely to work collaboratively to create a smooth transition during this period,” Driscoll said.

Planning for the deaccessioning work at the library will continue during this period, Driscoll said.

“I'm very pleased with the work done to date by the Ad Hoc Deaccessioning Committee. To be effective and relevant, all libraries must regularly review their resources, holdings, and access methodologies. I am pleased that the committee is designing an ongoing, long-term process for review that will include consultation with and engagement by a broad range of key stakeholders including IUP's expert library faculty, faculty in academic units, and others,” he said.

Information about the dean of Libraries search process will be shared as details become finalized.
