Colleagues,
I have recently learned of the death of Cheryl Samuels, who served as IUP's provost and vice president for Academic Affairs from March 2006 to June 2008. She died March 23, following a five-year battle with ovarian cancer.
While I did not have the honor of knowing Dr. Samuels, I have been told that, although her tenure at IUP was short, she was a valued contributor and colleague.
In addition to her husband, Jeff, she is survived by her daughter, Courtney; her son, Blair; her parents, Richard and Wanda Troy, of Toledo, Ohio; and two sisters.
Her family has suggested that anyone wishing to remember Dr. Samuels make a donation to the charity of his or her choice in Dr. Samuels's name.
