  • The University Photographer, Keith BoyerDirector Keith Boyer joined the IUP staff in April 1999.

    Before working at IUP, Keith was a photojournalist for 18 years, working at such newspapers as the Birmingham Post-Herald in Alabama, and the Greensburg Tribune-Review, Somerset Daily American, and Hanover Evening Sun in Pennsylvania. Keith’s work has also been published in various magazines, including Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report, and it has been distributed worldwide by The Associated Press.

    During his newspaper career, Keith has covered such events and subjects as NCAA national championship football games, the NCAA “Sweet Sixteen” basketball playoffs, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, three presidents, and numerous celebrities and sports stars, including Michael Jordan, Sting, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, and former Alabama Governor George Wallace. Floods, tornadoes, police drug raids, and a hot air balloon crash (with Keith as a passenger) are also part of Keith’s portfolio.

    Keith has also published two books. Revelations: Alabama’s Visionary Folk Artists and Welcome to Lickskillet were published in 1994 and 1996, respectively, by Crane Hill Publishers.

    Keith has won a number of national and regional awards for his photography, including twice being named Photographer of the Year by the Alabama Associated Press.

    A native of Somerset County, Pennsylvania, Keith is a 1975 graduate of Shanksville-Stoneycreek High School and a 1978 graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
