Celebrating a Heritage

In celebration of IUP’s Native American Awareness Council and the Office of Social Equity and Civic Engagement sponsored the third annual Native American Festival.

National American Indian Heritage Month

The featured attractions for the event were the Allegany River Indian Dancers and the Drums of Native Sisters. Arts, crafts, and food vendors also offered displays throughout the afternoon event, which was free and open to the community. In December 2006, the IUP Council of Trustees passed a resolution that the university would dedicate the month of November each year to promote awareness of, and appreciation for, the history and culture of the region’s Native Americans.
