Garcia Named Member of National Hispanic Science Network on Drug Abuse
Dr. Victor Garcia of the Department of Anthropology was nominated and accepted as a research scientist member of the National Hispanic Science Network on Drug Abuse.
Maritime Archaeology Web Journal Completed
On September 10, 2009, Anthropology assistant professor Ben Ford made the final posts to his Web journal, sponsored by the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. These posts detail the process and findings of three years of archaeological investigations along the shores of Lake Ontario.
Larkin and Duchamp Receive Game Commission Grant
The School of Graduate Studies and Research is pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffery Larkin and Dr. Joseph Duchamp, Department of Biology, received an external award from the Pennsylvania Game Commission in the amount of $459,776 for their project, "White Nose Syndrome: Multi-state Coordination, Investigation and Rapid Response to an Emerging Wildlife Threat."
Woolcock Presents on Crystallographic Databases to American Chemical Society

Kanyarusoke Receives First-ever Humanitarian Award from College of Education
Dr. Charles Kanyarusoke, a Communications Media Department professor, received the first-ever IUP College of Education Humanitarian Award in August 2009 for his work in implementing educational programs in Southern Sudan.
Giever Receives Grant from FBI
The School of Graduate Studies and Research is pleased to announce that Dr. Dennis Giever, Department of Criminology, received an external award from the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, in the amount of $230,513 for his project “FBI: Master's Completion - NPU.”
Sissoko Publishes on the Brazilian Real Crisis of January 1999
“Military Expenditure, External Debt, and Financial Turmoil: The Case of Brazil,” coauthored by Yaya Sissoko (Department of Economics, IUP) and Mete Feridun (Department of Banking and Finance, Cyprus International University), was published in the Fall 2008 issue of Pennsylvania Economic Review.
Bullard Receives Tri-County Workforce Grant
Dr. Jennie Bullard, chairperson of the Employment and Labor Relations Department, recently received an external award from the Tri-County Workforce Investment Board in the amount of $12,527 for her project, "Updates in Human Resources."

Dee Klein, professor in the Department of Special Education’s Deaf Education program, was invited to teach a course and provide a Praxis preparation session in summer 2009 at the University of New Orleans for their Deaf Education program.
Richburg Publishes Article on Use of an Electrotactile Vestibular Substitution System
Cynthia McCormick Richburg, associate professor of audiology in the Department of Special Education and Clinical Services, published an article in the Journal of Neurologic Physical Therapy on the use of an electrotactile vestibular substitution system to facilitate balance and gait of an individual with bilateral vestibular hypofunction and bilateral transtibial amputation.
