A Fresh(man) Start

Sam Heastie speaks at the 2009 IUP Freshman Convocation

Sam Heastie, nationally known for his expertise in student success, was the keynote speaker for the 2009 Freshman Convocation.

The event drew a full house of students, faculty and staff in IUP’s Performing Arts Center Fisher Auditorium and also featured remarks by President Tony Atwater and Student Government Association President Alyssa Stiles. Gian Pagnucci, 2009–2010 University Professor, served as master of ceremonies.

In his remarks, titled, “If It’s To Be, It’s Up to Me,” Heastie reminded students that “passion, vision, commitment, and conviction” had brought them to this point, and “focus” was needed to “catapult (them) into the next chapter of (their) journey.” See the convocation video on line at YouTube.
