Women’s Club Fall Tea Event

The Women’s Club of IUP will have its fall tea September 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Sutton Hall President’s Suite. This event is hosted by Beverly Roberts-Atwater.

The Women’s Club of IUP celebrates its sixtieth year in 2009. It was established by Margaret Pratt, wife of President Willis Pratt, in 1949. Its purpose is to “foster friendship and sociability among members, along with a service component.”

Membership in the club is open to all women employees of the university or to wives of employees who work at least half-time at one of the three campuses and are in one of the following categories: faculty, managers, deans, vice presidents, unit II administrators, SUA administrators, grant-funded coordinators, coaches, managerial staff of the Student Cooperative Association and Foundation for IUP, ROTC personnel, nurses, and nurse practitioners and physicians. It is also open to retired women faculty and those whose husbands are retired or deceased.

Club members have several interest groups, including book discussion, armchair travelers, craft, game, and wine tasting. Other events planned through the year include a December party, a chili party, and a spring brunch. The May 1, 2010, spring brunch will include a sixtieth birthday party for the club.

Club members sponsor several bloodmobiles through the year, make blankets for Project Linus, and collect toys for children at the local hospitals. Most recently, the club has done fund-raising projects, including the current cookbook sale, to raise funds for book scholarships for female students, based on financial need.

Interested persons new to the club are asked to make a reservation for the fall tea by contacting club president Leigh Domaracki at 724-357-9223.
