A True Pioneer

James McCormick and President Tony Atwater

President Tony Atwater congratulated James McCormick, a member of the Class of 1959, as he was recognized as an IUP Pioneer (a graduate who is celebrating or has celebrated his or her fiftieth-anniversary class reunion) at this year’s Reunion Weekend in June.

McCormick, who served as the first chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, was recently honored with the title chancellor emeritus by the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education in recognition of his eighteen-year term as chancellor.

The Class of 1959, led by McCormick, is spearheading the Sutton Hall carillon (bells) restoration project.
