Add Content from the Menu

You can create new content from the menu on the Content Management System (CMS) browser.

Follow this process:

  • From the menu on the right side of the browser, click Add.
    Add and edit menu buttons
If these buttons are not visible, and you are definitely logged into the Staging server (look for the big yellow “Staging“ across the IUP logo), then you are in Preview mode. Click the Preview button underneath the menu so the red arrow goes away.
  • A screen labeled “Add New Item” will appear. (You may need to look behind some of the windows open on your desktop.)
  • To make a new webpage, select New Content Block and click on the Next ... button. Then, the “Select Folder” screen will appear.
  • Navigate to the folder where you want to create the item. (If you started from the browser menu where you wanted to create the item, you should already be in the proper folder.) Then click on the Next ... button.

Now you’ll be able to edit the content:

  1. A screen labeled “Edit Content in Folder ...” will appear (See below).

    Editing window
  1. You will then need to complete the following fields:
    1. Title Field: In the title field, located near the top of the screen, enter the title for your new content. The content title is only seen by web maintainers—it never appears on the website (except for uploaded files and news posts). Still, you want it to make sense, so it should probably match the title of the page layout on which it will appear.
    2. Content Tab: The Content tab is the main tab, and you should automatically be on this tab when you open the content for editing. Enter or edit your content here.

After you have finished editing, either Check In the content (which saves your work), or Submit it (which saves it and enters it into workflow so it can be published). The content will appear on the website after it has been reviewed and approved by your site approver and the Web Team. (If you are a site approver, your submissions come directly to the Web Team.)
