Indiana University of Pennsylvania will host two internationally known music artists for a four-day residency September 26–29.

Composer Cindy McTee and conductor Leonard Slatkin will offer lectures, masterclasses, and leading rehearsals during the residency as Edward R. Sims Distinguished Artists. The residency is funded through the generosity of the late Dr. Edward R. Sims, a 1953 music graduate of IUP.

The residency concludes with a gala concert with IUP’s Symphony Band, Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble on September 29 at 7:30 p.m. in IUP’s Performing Arts Center Fisher Auditorium. Tickets for this concert will be available online or at the door.

Cindy McTee>McTee has served on the faculty of several schools of music and just recently concluded a distinguished tenure as professor of composition at the University of North Texas. She has been part of IUP’s Festival of Women Composers International as a festival special guest composer and has won several awards for her work, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and Fulbright Fellowship.

Slatkin is music director laureate of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, director musical honoraire of the Orchestre National de Lyon, conductor laureate of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and a principal guest conductor of the Orquesta Filamonica de Gran Canaria. He maintains a rigorous schedule of guest conducting throughout the world and is also active as a composer, author, and educator.
