Why do we keep what we keep? From the nostalgic glow of vintage holiday decor to the intricate engineering of a Lego set, the objects we treasure tell a story of curiosity and passion. The University Museum at Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites the public to explore these personal narratives in the upcoming exhibition What Do You Collect?, on display from January 31 through March 6.

All are invited to join us for an opening reception on Saturday, January 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the University Museum in Sutton Hall. This event is free and open to the public and will feature complimentary food and drinks. It is a wonderful opportunity to explore the exhibition, connect with fellow community members, and enjoy the diverse collections on display.

The exhibit features a wide array of unusual (and usual) individual collections from members of the greater Indiana community. This show highlights the art of the personal archive, featuring the items people find, save, and value over a lifetime.

It’s an invitation to walk through the gallery, find common ground with your neighbors, and perhaps leave inspired to look at your own “dusty” treasures in a new light. Whether you are a lifelong collector or simply someone who appreciates a good story, there is something in this exhibit for everyone to enjoy.

This event is free and open to the public, and all are welcome to attend throughout the exhibition, running from January 31 until March 6, 2026.

The University Museum is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays: 2:00–6:30 p.m.; Thursdays: Noon–7:00 p.m.; Saturdays: Noon–4:00 p.m. Closed Sunday, Monday, and university holidays.
