Internationally recognized women’s rights advocate Nafis Sadik visited IUP in March on International Women’s Day and received the Women of Color, Women of Courage Award sponsored by the IUP Women’s Studies Program.

Susan Taylor, editorial chief of Essence magazine, spoke at IUP on “Creative Leadership from the Inside Out” in a March visit sponsored by the IUP African American Cultural Center and the Office of Social Equity and Civic Engagement.

In April, artist/photographer Lynn Johnson had “talk back” sessions with members of the university community in conjunction with a display of her work, From Intolerance to Understanding, in McElhaney Hall and on Keith Lawn. Her visit was sponsored by the IUP Tolerance Project.

History professor and Fulbright Scholar Lin Guang visited IUP in April as a guest of the Department of History and made presentations on the “History Profession in China” and “From Politics to Economy—A Rethinking of Chinese Urbanization, 1949-1999.”
