Reference Services

  • The research desk (formerly known as the reference desk) is the first place to go with all of your library questions. During the regular semester, library faculty members staff the research desk from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, ready to assist you with questions from the simple to the complex.

    All of our library faculty are experienced information specialists and experts in our library collections—they’ll help you find materials for your coursework, provide guidance on searching our databases and catalog, and can point you to hundreds of helpful guides, websites, and tools to make your library research a success.

    Can you evaluate my paper?

    Unfortunately, no—while we will help you locate resources to inform your work, and can point you to guides to writing and citing, it would not be appropriate for the library faculty to evaluate your work. Questions regarding your assignment details, how well you are progressing, or whether your project is adhering to the guidelines for your assignment must be directed to your instructor.

    Where can I get more help?

    We offer several services to assist students with their library research. If you’re away from campus or can’t get to the library, send a question to our Ask a Librarian online reference service. If you would like a comprehensive one-on-one consultation for help with your project, feel free to make an appointment with one of our subject specialists and bring your assignment along. Questions about borrowing policy, your library account, and course reserves can be directed to our Circulation Desk at 724-357-2340.
