As part of IUP’s ongoing work to limit the opportunity for spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), all physical facilities of the IUP Libraries are closed at this time. This includes the Stapleton, Stabley, and Orendorff libraries at the main Indiana campus, as well as all library facilities at the regional campuses in Punxsutawney, Northpointe, and Pittsburgh East.
Students needing computer and internet access may use a computer lab in Ruddock Hall at the corner of Maple and 11th streets. Further information is available via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 724-357-2596. General issues with technology may be directed to the Virtual IT Support Center.
Library buildings are closed with all faculty and staff working remotely. Items on reserve are not available at this time and we are unable to retrieve or scan items. Book lending and interlibrary loan for physical items has been suspended. Due dates for all items currently on loan will continue to be extended as needed. There is no immediate need to return physical items to the library, but the exterior book drop to the left of the main entrance to the Stapleton Library is open for returns.
While the physical library is closed, services continue to be offered electronically through IUP’s “virtual library.” Library faculty and staff are working remotely to support students and faculty in their academic work.
Our virtual collections include desktop access to thousands of e-books, hundreds of database resources, and millions of individual journal, magazine, and newspaper articles. Research support and library instruction continue remotely through chat, telephone, email, D2L, and Zoom technologies. Please visit the IUP Libraries home page and click on the red Ask a Librarian button for assistance.
Electronic interlibrary loan continues to deliver articles to IUP users’ desktops. Patrons can request articles through ILLiad, but fulfillment is limited to other libraries’ ability to lend materials. All articles will be delivered via Document Delivery as outlined on the ILLiad web page. Patrons not currently registered to use ILLiad will need to register for this service by following the First Time Users link on that page. Questions concerning interlibrary service can be directed to email@example.com.
Updates about the university’s response to this situation are posted to the IUP Coronavirus Information page. Updates about the IUP Libraries coronavirus response are posted on this page. Any questions may be directed to Erik Nordberg, dean of Libraries, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as this situation continues to develop.
Please be safe, practice social distancing, and wash your hands frequently!
