Office 365 Migration

  • What does this migration mean?

Over the next few months all CGP accounts will be migrated to Office 365 (this includes your e-mails, calendars, and contacts). Outlook will now be the supported mail application on the standard desktop—Thunderbird will be removed. You will no longer access your e-mail on the web via imail.iup.edu, but at mail.iup.edu (notice the removal of the preceding i). This conversion will happen in stages, and you will be notified when it’s time for your account to be migrated. Thanks for your patience during the adoption of this new system!

What can I expect on the day that my account is migrated?

This is the projected timeline for your Office 365 migration:

    • 12:00 a.m. – Account migration begins. Do not access your e-mail during the migration.
    • 7:00 a.m. – E-mail migration is complete, and you can access your Office 365 e-mail account. The migration of your contacts and calendar will continue. Do not be alarmed if you do not see all of your contacts or calendar entries by 7:00 a.m.
    • 12:00 p.m. – Contacts and calendar migration complete.
    • You will be able to follow the instructions below to set up the Outlook client on your machine. Or, you can use Outlook Web Access (OWA) at mail.iup.edu.

    Benefits of Office 365

    • Increased e-mail quota to 50GB.
    • The use of Microsoft OneDrive—cloud-based data storage for your personal account (with ability to share files/folders similar to Dropbox and other cloud storage solutions).
    • Ability to use Word, Powerpoint, and Excel “online” (if you are ever on devices that don’t have it installed).
    • Ability to use OneNote.
    • Single sign-on integration. You will use your network username/password to access your e-mail.

    Pre-Migration Tasks

    • It is recommended that you complete these items at least five days before your migration.
