Housing Fall 2020

  • We are so excited for the fall, and we hope to see you (from a safe social distance) this move-in!

Many of you are making big decisions about the fall 2020 semester this week. Whether you are a new IUP student or returning, we want to make sure you know that we are here for you.

    • If you are taking all-online classes and want to live on campus, you still can.
    • If you are taking all-online classes and want to stay home for the semester, you can do that as well. We will drop your housing and meal plan with no fee prior to move-in.
    • And, as always, if you are taking some in-person and some online classes, you can live on campus.

No matter your decision, we want you to let us know. In the housing portal within MyIUP we have a form “tell us your Fall 2020 plans.” Here’s how you get there:

    • Log in to MyIUP
    • Click on the Campus Services tab
    • Click on Housing Services
    • Click on the Forms tab
    • Click on Tell us your Fall 2020 plan

If you’ve decided to do your fall semester online, from home, we hope to see you in the spring.

If you’ve decided to live with us this fall—see the following for highlights of our Move-In and Fall 2020 Information.

    Arriving on Campus

    • Safety kit
    • Color-coded card to place on your dashboard. This allows University Police and others directing you to your building to know where you’re heading. This card will also have a space for you to write your room number and cell phone number in case we need to contact you during your move-in.
      • Getting to know your RAs and Hall Directors
        • When you arrive at your building, our staff will greet you and help you find your room. The Residence Director-RDs (professional staff member) can be found at the building check-in station, and the Resident Assistants-RAs (student peer helpers) will assist you on floors. Have a question? Just ask!
      • Getting Involved
        • Once you are moved in, look for First Floor Meeting signs that will provide the link to your first floor meeting. This meeting is a way to meet other residents, and give you important information you need to know about your home and Welcome Week events. Don’t miss it!
        • Take part in Welcome Week activities
        • Your RA is the “go-to” person to get you connected...and help you stay connected to campus happenings. They will be reaching out to you daily. But, don’t hesitate to knock on their door, write a note on their room’s memo pad, or slip a note under their door if you have a question or need something. They want to help you and are excited to get to know you!
        • If you’re interested in getting more involved, each building has a “student council” that meets to plan events for the building. They are called Residence Hall Councils (RHCs). It’s a great way to get involved and meet others. Watch for signs advertising your first RHC meeting! Make your house a home—get involved in your building’s RHC!

            • When you arrive on campus for your move-in, you’ll go directly to the parking or unloading area near your residence hall
            • At the hall, you will go to your hall office to check in and have your ICard encoded (don’t forget to bring it with you!)
            • Families/students will be asked to unload their cars and begin their move-in. We ask that your move-in take no more than 30 minutes to allow enough space for everyone. Once everything is unloaded, please move your car to one of the large parking areas
            • Due to coronavirus, we will have limited carts to assist with your move.

          Settling in

          • This year we have marked our common areas and study lounges to promote social distancing. While we want students to be able to enjoy our amenity spaces, we also encourage students to follow all CDC guidelines when in public spaces. To promote this, you will see signs in our study lounges and common spaces that ask you to sit and stand in at least six feet away from others while these areas. In addition, we will have hand sanitizer available in all our entrances and common areas, including the laundry rooms.
          • While our goal is to build community among all of our residents, many of the meetings and programs that were held in our halls will be done virtually.
          • All of our staff will wear masks in our halls—we ask that you do you as well.
          • Our individual hall offices will not be staffed this fall. Instead, we will operate regional offices: one on the north side of campus, and one on the south side of campus. If you need anything during the days, such as a temporary card or a spare key, you will need to contact these offices and they will be able to assist you.
          • All of the changes that we made to our residential communities have been made to promote the health and safety all of residents. Thank you for you understanding and helping stop the spread of COVID-19.
