IUP is home to approximately 11,325 students from across the
nation and around the globe. Offering a superior education at an affordable
cost, IUP is located in the community of Indiana, 55 miles northeast of
Pittsburgh. The university conducts one of the largest internship programs in
Pennsylvania. More than 1,200 sites have sponsored IUP student interns.
The College of Health and Human Services serves the
public interest by providing a high-quality education to prepare students for
applied professional disciplines. Students
study the theories underlying their programs and then focus on applying
them to their professions. In a learning-centered environment, instructors
help students bridge theory and practice with many hands-on activities
completed in field experiences. These
field experiences include a variety of credit-bearing courses such as
internships, externships, clinicals, and practicums.
Field experiences also allow the students to
translate academic principles into action, to test their career interests, and
to develop skills and abilities related to the degree they are seeking. Through
carefully planned and supervised field experiences, students may earn from one
to 12 academic credits toward their degree.
