Come experience the silence. Feel their stories. In memory of those we lost—we bear witness, we speak their names, we vow to do better.
The Haven Project’s Silent Witness Display is an exhibit showcased around the IUP community during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. We come together to confront a difficult truth with one simple goal: to make visible the tragic reality of domestic violence and to remember the lives of those who were killed.
The display features a powerful visual tribute: life-sized silhouettes, each representing an individual whose life was ended by domestic violence. These figures are called the “Silent Witnesses” because they can no longer speak for themselves. However, by standing in our halls, they speak volumes. They serve as a solemn reminder of the lives lost and a call to action for all of us to work toward a world without violence.
The Display Will Be Available:
- October 6–10, Stapleton Library
- October 13–17, Leonard Hall
- October 20–24, Eberly College of Business
Trigger Warning: Stories contain descriptive themes of sexual and domestic violence, including child abuse. The material may be triggering for some individuals.
Statistics from the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence:
- More than 10 million people are abused each year in the US.
- In Pennsylvania, 119 victims died from domestic violence incidents last year. Over the past 10 years, that number is over 1500 deaths.
