How to Join

  • Greek Life in the Oak GroveWhen a student chooses to join a fraternity or sorority, they will join a chapter, and each chapter is governed by one council. At IUP, there are four councils each with a unique recruitment process. All recruitment is deferred, which means that students may participate in the recruitment process only when they meet the following criteria:

    • They are enrolled as full-time undergraduate students.
    • They earn and maintain a minimum 2.50 cumulative grade-point average. Some chapters may follow a higher cumulative grade-point average requirement.
    • They have successfully earned a minimum of 12 credit hours at IUP or transferred to IUP with a minimum of 12 credit hours from another college or university. Credits accumulated during high school do not count towards this minimum.

    Interfraternity Council Recruitment

    Interfraternity Council (IFC) recruitment is open to students meeting the deferred recruitment criteria.

    Fall 2019 recruitment starts Monday, September 9, with fraternity chapters each hosting several events that week. Students interested in spring fraternity recruitment are also encouraged to attend Fraternity Recruitment Orientation in the HUB Ohio Room at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, to learn more.

    Panhellenic Association Recruitment

    Fall 2019 Panhellenic recruitment is informal and commonly known as continuous open recruitment. Interested students are strongly encouraged to attend Kick Off in the HUB Ohio Room at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, to learn more. Fall Panhellenic recruitment begins on Saturday, September 14, with all chapters involved in our Open House Weekend. Interested students should plan to attend events on both days.

    National Pan-Hellenic Council Intake

    The National Pan-Hellenic Council does not organize a council-wide intake or recruitment event. Individual chapters are responsible for their intake. Watch social media and look around campus for flyers about interest meetings for individual chapters.

    The NPHC will host their Meet the Divine 9 in the HUB Ohio Room on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at 6:30 p.m.
