Center for Emergency Services Training

  • IUP Emergency Services Training is a component of the Institute for Rural Health and Safety of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. IUP began offering formal training courses approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health in 1974.

    The IUP Emergency Service Training offers Pennsylvania Department of Health-certified training courses as well as other programs to emergency services providers. These programs attempt to address the training needs in emergency services locally, regionally, and statewide.

    The following courses are currently offered:

    Paramedic Program Paramedic Program

    This program is primarily designed for future EMS personnel, but it is appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies, including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches or athletic trainers, safety professionals, etc. Participants who successfully complete this program are eligible to take National Registry of Paramedics certification exams for Pennsylvania and national certification as a paramedic. Prerequisite: Students must be certified emergency medical technicians.

    EMT TrainingTraditional EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) Training/Traditional Classroom

    This program is primarily designed for future Emergency medical Services (EMS) personnel, but is appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies, including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches or athletic trainers, safety professionals, etc. Participants who successfully complete this program are eligible to take National Registry of EMTs certification exams for Pennsylvania and national certification as an EMT.

    American Heart Association CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) AHACourse

    The IUP Institute for Rural Health and Safety is offering the following American Heart Association courses:

    Heartsaver:

    Heartsaver First Aid,  Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED,  Heartsaver CPR AED,  Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED

    To register for a class, please click on the appropriate link. You will be directed to the AHA website.

    • At the top of the AHA page, choose the CPR & ECC tab, located at the top of the page and to the right
    • Click Locate US Training Centers, found in the middle of the page
    • Enter the zip code: 15701
    • Click on Search Training Centers, located under the zip code search bar
    • Locate: IUP Research Institute/Institute for Rural Health and Safety
    • Click Details
    • Choose the class you would like to take. Make note to choose the correct date and the correct class.
    • Click Reserve
    • Fill out the form
    • Click Reserve
    • Payment is due two days before class. Please make check or money order out to: IUP/RI

    Online/Hybrid Courses

    ALS Trauma Head with AED  IUP Hybrid

    These programs are primarily designed for future EMS personnel but are appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies, including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches or athletic trainers, safety professionals, and others. Participants who successfully complete this program are eligible to take National Registry of EMTs certification exams for Pennsylvania and national certification as an EMT. Online/hybrid courses are designed for students who are self-motivated, academically disciplined, and technologically proficient with standard computer applications. Students will complete required courses online and attend skill labs on scheduled days.
