Center for Emergency Services Training

IUP Emergency Services Training is a component of the Institute for Rural Health and Safety of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. IUP began offering formal training courses approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health in 1974.

The IUP Emergency Service Training offers Pennsylvania Department of Health-certified training courses as well as other programs to emergency services providers. These programs attempt to address the training needs in emergency services locally, regionally, and statewide.

The following courses are currently offered:

Sim Man with IRHS Polo Paramedic Program

This program is primarily designed for future EMS personnel, but it is appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies, including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches or athletic trainers, safety professionals, etc. Participants who successfully complete this program are eligible to take National Registry of Paramedics certification exams for Pennsylvania and national certification as a paramedic. Prerequisite: Students must be certified emergency medical technicians.

This program is primarily designed for future EMS personnel, but is appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies, including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches or athletic trainers, safety professionals, etc. Participants who successfully complete this program are eligible to take National Registry of EMTs certification exams for Pennsylvania and national certification as an EMT.

These programs are primarily designed for future EMS personnel but are appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies, including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches or athletic trainers, safety professionals, and others. Participants who successfully complete this program are eligible to take National Registry of EMTs certification exams for Pennsylvania and national certification as an EMT. Online/hybrid courses are designed for students who are self-motivated, academically disciplined, and technologically proficient with standard computer applications. Students will complete required courses online and attend skill labs on scheduled days. 

CPRCPR Course

This is  an American Heart Association CPR course, BLS for Healthcare Providers. This course includes CPR and airway management techniques for adult, child, and infant patients, and use of a bag-valve mask and AED. Students who successfully complete the course will obtain an American Heart Association CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers certification card valid for two years.

This program is primarily designed for future EMS personnel, but is appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies, including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches or athletic trainers, safety professionals, etc. Participants who successfully complete this program are eligible to take National Registry of EMTs EMR certification exams for Pennsylvania and national certification.
